Sonic CD
Sonic CD was released in 1993 for the Sega CD/Mega CD and 1996 for the PC. It was the only Sonic game on the Sega CD. This game introduced us to Amy Rose and Metal Sonic. It played much like the Genesis/Mega Drive classics, but featured very large levels and a new “running-in-place” ability that allowed Sonic to charge up his speed for running. The spin dash attack was also in this game. Sonic CD’s main gimmick is time travel. Running past a time post that reads Past will place a “Past” icon in the corner of the screen. By running at full speed without stopping, Sonic will travel to the “past” version of the zone. Running past a time post that reads Future and running at full speed without stopping will take Sonic to the zone’s “future.” If you are in the Past and run past a Future post, you will be taken back to the present after running full speed and the same goes for a Past post in the Future. Destroying the Robot Generator in the Past of a zone will make for a good Future for that zone. A “Good Future” features less enemies. By not destroying the generator, there will be a “Bad Future” which will contain many more enemies. And by destroying the Metal Sonic hologram in a zone’s Past, animals will be running free in the Past and Present. The game also featured unique special stages where you could freely run in a 3D environment. You had to destroy UFOs to collect the Time Stones. Collecting all 7 Time Stones will allow you to have a good future in all zones no matter what.
