Sonic the Hedgehog
This was the game that started it all. Released in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog was just what SEGA needed to compete with Nintendo and the powerhouse that is Mario. With catchy music, vivid graphics, memorable boss battles, and speed, Sonic the Hedgehog helped make the SEGA Genesis the best selling system of the 16-bit era. The game has been re-released on many different consoles over the years in compilation packs. It was also ported to the Game Boy Advance under the name of Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis. The GBA version has met a lot of criticism from fans and is considered a disgrace to the classic game.
Game Gear & Master System Version
Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Game Gear and Master System looks very similar to the Genesis/Mega Drive version, but in actuality, it it’s a completely different game. Some of the scenery may look the the same, but the levels’ designs are all new. It is the perfect portable complement to the Genesis/Mega Drive classic.
